Vipers Bite Down on 66ers During Matinee Game December 18, 2008 Ronald Dupree scored a game-high 25 points for the Tulsa 66ers, but it was not enough to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers during the first of two Kids Day games this season at the SpiritBank Event Center. The Vipers led throughout in a 89-80 victory. "We showed spurts where we played pretty well, and others where we were discombobulated" 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "That's been the story of our season so far." The Vipers jumped out to an early 28-17 lead in the contest, forcing eight 66ers turnovers in the first quarter. Smush Parker led the charge early, scoring 10 of his 17 points in the period. The 66ers fought back from a 14-point halftime deficit. They went on a 23-10 run in the third quarter to cut the Viper lead to 56-57, after Jeremy Kelly hit a shot and a free throw with 4:24 left in the third quarter. Click Here For More Local Sport News

Tulsa WR named to All-Freshman squad 12/16/2008
University of Tulsa freshman Damaris Johnson was named to the 26-member Freshman All-America team by Sporting News magazine. Johnson became a key target in the Hurricane offense as a receiver and on special teams as a kick returner. Johnson was named to the Freshman All-America team as a kick return specialist, and was the only Conference USA freshman named to the team. He led the Golden Hurricane in all-purpose yardage, while also leading C-USA in that statistical category with 2,201 all-purpose yards. Johnson set a school record with 1,319 yards and also added 608 receiving yards. Johnson had six games with over 100 yards in kickoff return yardage, including a school single-game record of 211 yards against UTEP. Full Story

OSU 104, Mercer 74: Cowboys turn tables on Mercer 12/18/2008 Oklahoma State saw on film how Mercer pulled off upsets over Alabama and Auburn. The Bears applied early pressure that put the bigger schools on their heels. So OSU coach Travis Ford told his basketball team that it needed to be the hunter and not the hunted on Wednesday night. The Cowboys responded by playing as aggressively as they have all season, beating the Bears 104-74 at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Oklahoma State forced Mercer to turn the ball over 25 times and scored 41 points off those turnovers, making Mercer look like easy prey and not the upset specialists it’s been early this season.
