Security Federal Building
(Court of Three Sisters)

SecurityFedf1120 West 4th Street
Tulsa, OK  74103
Built in 1937
(Demolished 1999)
Architect: Harry H. Mahler
Information Provided by Tulsa Preservation Commission

This building, completed in 1937, was designed by Harry H. Mahler. Security Federal Savings and Loan Company began as a small, but prosperous concern, providing residential loans out of the Skelly Building. When Tulsa's business climate improved in the mid-1930s, they decided to buy a building of their own and remodel it for their use. This simple brick building was purchased for $8,000 and $4,500 was allocated for its remodeling. The remodeling included the installation of black vitrolite panels on the facade, covering a series of stepped vertical piers rising from two brick pilasters which border the entry. The piers are capped by horizontal aluminum bands which extend across the facade's flat roof line. A black-faced clock is contained in the centered peak, suggesting a pediment.
