Mayfest1

Mayfest is an outdoor tribute to the arts and music that is a family-oriented event created to promote a broader knowledge of and appreciation for arts and humanities among serious, as well as casual art lovers.

Attracting over 350,000 people, Mayfest will feature an array of multi-disciplined arts from dance, music and visual arts. Always one of the major highlights of spring, Mayfest 2008 will be planned to encompass some of the very best in both the exhibit and performance areas.

Mayfest 2009

Tulsa International Mayfest will be 11 a.m-11 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, located on downtown Tulsa’s Main Street between Third and Sixth streets and at the H.A. Chapman Centennial Green, Sixth and Main streets. The festival is free and open to the public with three outdoor stages, indoor galleries, a KidZone, food ven dors and artists booths featuring fine and market art.

Shuttle service from the Tulsa Community College Metro Campus, 10th Street and Boston Avenue, to the festival will be available 4 p.m.-midnight Thursday- Friday, 10:30 a.m.-midnight Saturday, and 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Round-trip fare is $2. Bicycle riders will find a bike hub at Sixth and Main streets. Galleries and art booths are open throughout the run of Mayfest. Thursday
Thursday noon

Hear that sound? It's all of downtown springing into action. Food: Polish sausage, Wild Goose, Fifth and Main streets; Greek gyro, Santa Lucia, Fourth and Main streets. 

Music:
Eric and the Blasters: Tulsa rock, 11 a.m., Main Street Stage on the Green. 

Activity:
Used up the lunch hour standing in line for food? The MidFirst Bank Fundraising Van will be parked at Third and Main streets to take your spare coins on the way back to the office. By festival's end, the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa could get a check for $3,000 in donations and a bank match.

Thursday evening
Close your laptop, leave your car in the lot and make an evening of it. Food: Frozen daiquiri, Tropical Breeze, Williams Green; toasted ravioli, Mama Mia, Fifth and Main streets. 

Music:
Annie Ellicott and the Brian Haas Trio: A mix of jazz fusion and brain-melting vocals, fresh from Tulsa, 8:15 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green. Dirtfoot: Americana, 9:30 p.m., Fourth Street and Boston Avenue. Grady Nichols: Smooth jazz from a Tulsa legend, 9:30 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green.

Activity:
Some of the Tulsa area's best artists show their work in the Invitational Gallery, found in the Williams Towers lobby, Third Street and Boulder Avenue. Fine art goes up on display and remains on sale through the weekend. The early birds catch the best selection on the first day. Gallery is open until 6 p.m.

Friday
Friday noon

Consider it the beginning of a long weekend 

Food:
Fried tenderloin, Jack's Confections, Williams Green; grilled Cuban sandwich, Flamingo Grill, Third and Main streets.

Music:
Klondike 5, a zesty mix of bluegrass and Americana from Tulsa, 11:45 a.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street.

Activity:
The Center Gallery features the unique perspective and artwork of clients at the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. The indoor gallery will be in the Park Centre Building, Sixth and Main streets.

Friday happy hour
Art and music, food and drink: What else you need?

Food: Frozen margarita, Tropical Breeze, Williams Green; pita wraps, Pierre's, Williams Green.

Music:
Round Up Boys, local Western swing mixed with rowdy, danceable classic-country hits, 5 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green; My Solstice, Tulsa's own straight-up alt-rockers, 6:30 p.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth and Main streets.

Activity:
Spend the first official hours of the weekend wandering among the white tents on Main Street. Visual artists and market artists offer fine art, photography, jewelry, sculpture, folk art, T-shirts and more for sale through 8 p.m.

Friday evening
Break your routine with some street food and music to match.

Food:
Quesadillas, Wild Goose, Third and Main streets; Indian tacos, B&G, Fourth and Main streets.

Music:
Sister Hazel, acoustic, pop-rock, 9 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green; Larkin, a punk-rock, Irish sing-along, 9:30 p.m., Fourth Street and Boston Avenue; Callupsie, Tulsa's indie-rock juggernaut, 9:45 p.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street.

Activity:
Area college students reveal "The Urban Landscape," this year's show in the College Gallery, the lobby of the First Place Tower, located off Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Gallery is open through 6 p.m.
 

Saturday
Saturday afternoon

Bring the family — and show them the new downtown.

Food:
 Corn dog, Jack's Corn Dogs, KidZone; funnel cake, A&J, Williams Green.

Music:
Duo Sonics, bringing blues, roots and acoustic music to the stage, 12:30 p.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street; Acoustic Freight Train, exactly what it sounds like, 3:30 p.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street.

Activity:
The St. Francis Children's Hospital Bear Clinic docs are in 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the KidZone, Sixth and Main streets. Stuffed bears get a check-up to show children that a visit to the doctor doesn't have to be scary.

Saturday evening
A beer and some barbecue will get you in a swinging mood.

Food: Smoked turkey leg, Split Rail Bar-B-Que, Fifth and Main streets; pork sandwich, Unk Steve's Bar-B-Que, Williams Green.

Music:
Stars Go Dim, Tulsa-based pop and rock from former members of award-winning Christian rock act Pillar, 7:30 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green; Old 97's, fun alt-country, Americana and rock, 9 p.m., Main Street Stage on the Green; Red Dirt Rangers, homegrown sounds of alt-country and Americana, 9:45 p.m., Bartlett Square at Fifth and Main streets.

Activity:
Creative Culture Courtyard — call it a KidZone for grown-ups at the Samson Plaza through 8 p.m.

Sunday

Sunday afternoon
Sip some wine, take in some jazz and wind down your weekend.

Food:
Mayfest private label wine, Blue Coyote Winery, Williams Green; Filipino egg rolls, Nipa Hut, Fourth and Main streets.

Music:
Joesf Glaude, traditional jazz from one of northeast Oklahoma's finest, noon, Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street; jazz from the Oral Roberts University and Rogers State University jazz bands, 1:45 and 3 p.m., Fourth Street and Boston Avenue; Gordy & Zoe, drum ensemble, 4 p.m. Bartlett Square at Fifth Street and Main Street.

Activity:
Tulsa's arts future will be shown in the Youth Art Gallery, located in the Tulsa Performing Arts Center throughout the festival. The work of 500 students in Tulsa County schools will be shown through 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
