The Tulsa Oilers defeated the Ft. Worth Brahmas 2-0 Friday night in
a hard fought, chippy battle at the Tulsa Convention Center.
With the win, the Oilers improved their record to 19-5-0, while Tulsa netminder Rod Branch notched his seventh shutout of the season,
improving to 17-3-0 for the year.
The game featured three disallowed goals - 2 for Tulsa and 1 for Ft. Worth which, had referee Paul Mariconda allowed it, would have resulted in a tie game with only
minutes remaining.
Over 30 minutes of scoreless play elapsed before Tulsa grabbed a 1-0 at 11:43 of the second period. Oiler veteran forwards Jamie Steer and Todd Marcellus played out a familiar scene
for the hometowm fans - a 2 on 1 shorthanded rush - with Marcellus roofing a shot from the left circle past Brahma netminder Matt Mullin. Steer received the only assist on Marcellus' 18th goal of season.
Tulsa's Lyle Steenbergen capped the scoring at 19:57 with an empty net goal, assisted by Steer and Branch.
The Oilers face the Wichita Thunder tomorrow night at the Tulsa Convention Center for a
7:35 p.m. match. |
