Unger to Coach Northern Conference
Tulsa Oilers Press Release December 17, 2002
Tulsa Oilers head coach Garry Unger
will coach the Northern Conference team in next month's Central Hockey League All-Star game, the CHL office announced this afternoon.
Unger earned the right to sit behind the bench in the January 23rd
game at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City by guiding the Oilers to the best winning percentage in the Northern Conference through December 21st. Unger will be able to select the non-starting members of the
team, along with the CHL Hockey Operations Department. Balloting for the game's starters will take place in the coming weeks.
"It's an honor to be able to be named the coach of the Northern
Conference team," said Unger. "The team deserves as much credit as I do for being in this position. It's a team effort and I appreciate the team that we have this year and the things that we've
been able to accomplish so far this year."
This year will mark the second time in Unger's coaching career that he has coached an All-Star game. In 1998 while the coach of the New Mexico
Scorpions, Unger coached the Eastern Conference team in the Western Professional Hockey League's All-Star Game.
Unger will lead his first-place Oilers (20-5-0) into action tonight at 7:05 p.m. when
they host the Indianapolis Ice (11-7-5) at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tickets for tonight's game are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at
584-2000. |
