The Tulsa Oilers were once again unable to solve the
Indianapolis Ice Tuesday night at the Tulsa Convention Center, dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime.
With the loss, Tulsa's record fell to 20-5-1 and their two game win streak was snapped.
The
Ice improved to 3-0-2 against Tulsa, continuing their role as a thorn in the Oilers' side. Indianapolis has won the last three contests against Tulsa.
Indy's Justin Kearns gave the Ice a 1-0 lead with
just 10 seconds left in the first period, launching a shot from the right crease area into the top left corner of the net, beating Tulsa goaltender Rod Branch. Assists were given to Greg Olsen and Andrew
Taylor.
The Ice grabbed a 2-0 lead at 2:10 of the second period when the Oilers were caught on a 2 on 1 rush. With Branch out of position, Ice forward Randy Holmes received a feed from left winger
Jared Dumba deep in the right slot and put the puck into the open net.
The Oilers cut the lead in half when Todd Marcellus fed a pass from behind the Indianapolis net to forward Justin Ossachuk, who
one-timed a high shot into the net for his 8th goal of the season at 18:40 of the second. Veteran defenseman Jorin Welsh also assisted on the power play goal.
Tulsa pulled even when veteran forward
Jamie Steer collected his own rebound in the mid-slot and beat Ice goaltender Shawn Silver fivehole at 7:41 of the third period. Steer's 12th goal of season was assisted by Ossachuk and Marcellus.
With the game tied at the end of regulation, the Ice clinched the victory at 1:45 of the overtime session when Ryan Aikia broke in alone on Branch and roofed a high shot into the upper right corner of the
Oiler net. Dumba and Olsen assisted on the game winner.
The Oilers return to action at the Tulsa Convention Center this Friday night when they take on the Turnpike Rival Oklahoma City Blazers. Game
