Oilers Win Three-Straight Over Weekend
Tulsa Oiler Press Release
February 10, 2003

The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League have re-gained first place in the Northwest Division standings after winning three games this weekend.

After their weekend victories, the Oilers (29-15-5) lead the division with 63 points. The Oklahoma City Blazers (29-16-2) are in second place with 60 points, while the Amarillo Gorillas (28-17-1) are in third with 57 points. Tulsa has played two more games than the Blazers and three more than the Gorillas.

Tulsa got the weekend off to a good start with a 7-1 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas on Friday night. The Oilers jumped out to an early 3-0 first-period and never looked back. The star of the game for Tulsa was forward Todd Marcellus, who scored three second-period goals to post his first hat trick of the season. He also added three assists in the game, giving him six points. Jorin Welsh added three points (1-2-3), and Jordon Flodell, Mike Johnson, and Peter MacKellar also found the back of the net for Tulsa.

Saturday night in Oklahoma City, the Oilers took the division lead away from the Blazers with a convincing 6-2 victory at the Ford Center. Tulsa took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission thanks to goals from Neil Wilkinson, Mike Johnson, Andrew Oke, and Peter MacKellar. Pat Hallett added two third-period goals to make the final score 6-2. Aaron Millar added three assists, and Marcellus also picked up two more assists, giving him eight points in two games.

Tulsa wrapped up their weekend with a 4-1 win over the El Paso Buzzards. After a scoreless first period, Klage Kaebel, MacKellar, and Hallett each scored second-period goals to give the Oilers the lead. Welsh added an empty-net goal late in the third to cap the victory. Goalie Matt Carmichael stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced on the night.

Tulsa will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the Indianapolis Ice at 7:05. The Ice (33-9-6) have the best point total in the Northern Conference with 72. Tickets for Thursday's game are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
