Oilers Kids' Day a Success
Tulsa Oilers Press Release February 11, 2003
The Tulsa Oilers held a Kids' Day last Sunday afternoon at their game against the
El Paso Buzzards. A few inches of morning snow didn't stop a crowd of 4,444 from seeing the Oilers defeat the Buzzards 4-1.
Kids 12-and under could purchase tickets for $5.00. The afternoon was filled
with fun and activities for kids, including a Moon Jump, an Obstacle Course, and a Giant Slide. Whiskers the Clown, face painters, and mascots from the Tulsa Zoo also entertained kids before the game. During
the first intermission, the Tulsa Flames, a Tulsa Youth Hockey Association team in the Mini-Mite Division, entertained the crowd with a five-minute hockey game.
The Oilers didn't disappoint the kids,
as they beat the Buzzards 4-1 to record their fourth-straight victory. Tulsa got second period goals from Klage Kaebel, Peter MacKellar, and Pat Hallett to take a 3-0 lead into the third period. El Paso
would pull to within 3-1 in the third, but Jorin Welsh's empty-net goal with 43 seconds left sealed the victory for the Oilers.
The Oilers (29-15-5) are now in first place in the Northwest Division
standings with 63 points. They lead the Oklahoma City Blazers (29-16-2) by three points and the Amarillo Gorillas (28-17-1) by six points. However, Tulsa has played two more games than Oklahoma City and
three more than Amarillo.
Tulsa will next host the Northeast Division-leading Indianapolis Ice (33-9-6) on Thursday night at 7:05. Tickets for Thursday's game are available at local Drug Marts, the
Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000. |
