Oilers to Retire Luc Beausoleils Sweater

The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League will retire former Oilers great Luc
Beausoleil's #17 sweater at their game on Friday, February 28th against the Wichita Thunder, Oilers owner Jeff Lund announced today. The Oilers will present Beausoleil with a framed #17 Oilers sweater during
a pre-game ceremony.
Beausoleil played seven seasons in Tulsa and ranks at or near the top of every Tulsa regular season scoring record, including goals (first with 286), assists (second with 267),
points (second with 553), and games played (second with 363).
"When you think of the Number 17 in Tulsa, you think of Luc Beausoleil," said Lund. "He was a great ambassador for the sport of hockey,
the Tulsa Oilers organization, and to the community of Tulsa. I wanted to retire Luc' s sweater to honor him for all that he's done for the Oilers."
During the 1997-98 season, Beausoleil had a season
for the ages. That year, he set an Oilers record with 74 goals and tied Doug Lawrence's Tulsa record and led the league with 127 points. At the time, 74 goals was a CHL record that was later broken by
Indianapolis Ice forward Yvan Corbin during the 2000-01 season when he scored 75.
He set or tied two other CHL records that season, including most power play goals in a single season with 30 (tied
with Oklahoma City's Joe Burton) and most short-handed goals in a single season with 14. He also tied a CHL record with six goals in a single game on December 17, 1997.
"Luc was a major player for us
both on and off the ice," said head coach Garry Unger. "He was a major threat on the ice and was known as one of the most dangerous scorers in the Central Hockey League." |
