Oilers Bucked By Laredo 6-4
Third Period Breakdown Results in Tulsa's Second Straight Loss
February 19, 2003
by Janna Kinder  TulsaHockey.net

The Tulsa Oilers fell 6-4 to the Laredo Bucks at the Laredo Entertainment Center Wednesday night.

Teams swapped goals in both the first and second periods, with Tulsa's Pat Hallett scoring at 7:48 of the first period, Laredo's Chris Grenville lighting the lamp at 8:56 of the first, Grenville tallying again at 7:53 of the second period and Oiler veteran defenseman Jorin Welsh scoring a power play goal at 13:42 of the second.

Scoring erupted in the third period, with Buck forward Morten Ask registering a power play goal at 2:26 of the final frame, giving Laredo a 3-2 lead.

The Bucks lead increased to 2 when Schneider beat Oiler netminder Rod Branch with a backhander at 4:54 of the third, assisted by Ask and defenseman Steve Weidlich.

Oiler forward Derek Toninato swung momentum in Tulsa's favor, firing the puck from the right hand side past a screened Lance Leslie at 9:31 of the third, cutting the Buck lead to 4-3.

Laredo's Jeremy Cornish answered under 3 minutes later, scoring a back-breaking goal at 12:04 of the third. Cornish batted the puck down in the Oiler zone and slipped it past Branch, restoring Laredo's two goal lead.

At 13:16 of the third, Oiler winger Justin Ossachuk notched a power play goal, assisted by defenseman Regan Harper and veteran forward Todd Marcellus.

Tulsa's comeback fell short, however, as Jeff Petruic scored at 19:46 of the third during a 2 on 1 rush.

The Oilers return to action Friday, taking on the Corpus Christi IceRays. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Memorial Coliseum
