Oilers Get Crucial 4-2 Win Over Fort Worth
Carmichael Wins Oiler Debut, Steenbergen Has 3 Point Game
January 18, 2003
by Janna Kinder  TulsaHockey.net

After suffering two disappointing overtime and shut out losses in a row in which the Tulsa Oilers blew 3-0 leads, the Oilers rebounded for a 4-2 victory over the Fort Worth Brahmas Saturday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Newly acquired goaltender Matt Carmichael was solid in his debut with the Oilers, stopping 25 of 27 shots to earn his first victory with Tulsa and seventh of the season.

Tulsa's goal scorers were Lyle Steenbergen at 30 seconds of the first period, Dallas Anderson at 2:22 of the second period, Jamie Steer at 3:13 of the third period and Justin Ossachuk, who capped the scoring at 9:55 of the third.

The Brahmas did manage to tie the game at 1 shortly after Steenbergen's opening goal when Jason Reesor beat Carmichael at 1:24 of the first.

After Anderson had put the Oilers back on top with his 6th goal in as many games, Sean Hughes tied the score at 2 at 1:20 of the third on a power play goal, as Tulsa's Mike Johnson had been whistled for holding late in the second period to give the Brahmas a man advantage. However, the Oilers pulled away with Steer's and Ossachuk's tallies to seal the much needed victory.

The Northern Conference standings are as follows: Oklahoma City and Indianapolis tied for first with 54 points, and Tulsa and Memphis tied for second with 53 points, with both teams having played 41 games. Amarillo trails the Oilers by 7 points with 5 games in hand. The Blazers hold 1 game in hand on Tulsa, while the Ice hold 2 games in hand on the Oilers.

The Oilers return home this Friday night to take on the Amarillo Gorillas for an important 7:35 p.m. matchup.
