Oilers Play Well at CHL All-Star Game
Marcellus Wins Fastest Skater Competition
Tulsa Oilers Press Release
January 24, 2003

The Dodge 2003 Central Hockey League All-Star Game was held last night at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City and the Southern Conference stars defeated the Northern Conference 10-6.

Oilers coach Garry Unger was behind the bench for the Northern stars and four Oilers players participated in the game (forward Todd Marcellus, goalie Rod Branch, forward Jamie Steer, and defenseman Mike Mohr).

Before the game in the CHL All-Star Skills Competition, Marcellus won the Fastest Skater competition with a time of 14 seconds. In the game itself, Oilers players played well. Branch stopped 18 of the 21 shots he faced before bowing out for Indianapolis Ice goalie Shawn Silver midway through the game. Both Marcellus and Steer picked up two assists and Branch was credited with one. Mohr registered an even defensive rating on the night.

The Oilers will return to action tonight when they host the third-place team in the Northwest Division, the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:35 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tulsa, 24-12-5, is in second place with 53 points, while Amarillo, 23-13-1, is in third with 47 points. Both teams trail first-place Oklahoma City who has totaled 54 points. The first 1,000 fans at tonight's game will receive Oilers team posters from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. Tonight's game will be televised on tape delay on KWHB-TV 47 at 11:00 p.m. tonight.

Tomorrow night, the Oilers will host the Wichita Thunder. The Thunder, 10-20-7, are currently in fourth place in the Northwest Division with 27 points.

This weekend is "Turn Back the Clock" weekend, as the Oilers will be wearing commemorative jerseys from the 1960's during both nights' contests. Tomorrow night, all concession items, with the exception of beer and Dippin' Dots, will be discounted up to 50%. The "Turn Back" jerseys will be auctioned off immediately following tomorrow's game.

Tickets for both tonight's game against Amarillo and tomorrow's game against Wichita are available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center Box Office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.
