Gorillas Blank Oilers 3-0
Amarillo Pulls Closer in Northern Conference Points Race January 24, 2003 by Janna Kinder TulsaHockey.net
The Amarillo Gorillas pulled to within four standings points of the Tulsa Oilers Friday night, shutting out Tulsa 3-0 at the Tulsa Convention Center.
Though Gorilla netminder Shawn Degagne stopped
all 30 Oiler shots, the Amarillo goaltender was not tested much, as the Oilers struggled to apply any kind of consistent heavy pressure in the Gorilla's defensive zone.
Amarillo took a 1-0 lead at
12:03 of the first period when Derek Hahn scored on a shot from deep on the left side, beating Oiler netminder Rod Branch.
The Gorillas went up 2-0 when Ben Gustavson fired a shot from the right wing
that deflected off an Oiler player's skate inside the right post at 3:38 of the second period. Assists were awarded to Dorian Anneck and Hahn.
Following an emotional implosion by Oiler forward Dallas
Anderson, which saw the Tulsa forward handed 4 minutes in minors plus a ten minute misconduct by referee Dan Boyd, Amarillo increased their lead to 3 at 8:51 of the third period when Brandon Carper scored on
a low shot from the right circle. Hahn and Gustavson were awarded helpers on the goal.
With the loss, Tulsa's record dropped to 24-13-5 while Amarillo improved to 24-13-1.
The Oilers close out
the "Turn Back The Clock" weekend tomorrow night when they face the Wichita Thunder for a 7:35 p.m. match at the Tulsa Convention Center. |
