Oilers Brand Brahmas 6-4
Marcellus, Hallett Each Score a Pair in Tulsa's Seventeenth Win November 29, 2002 by Janna Kinder TulsaHockey.net
The Tulsa Oilers continued their amazing pace Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center, beating the Ft. Worth Brahmas 6-4 and
improving their CHL leading record to 17-2-0.
The first period featured a scoreless, defensive battle between the teams, but goals came fast and furious in the second period as the flow opened up and
intensity increased on both ends of the ice.
Though Oiler forward Jamie Steer was held pointless in the match, the veteran reached a career milestone, playing his 500th professional game.
Ft.
Worth opened the scoring at 6:37 of the second period, when forward David Fry scored a fluky goal that appeared to bounce off an Oiler defender's skate, sneaking inside the left post past Tulsa goaltender
Rod Branch. The goal was assisted by Adam Davis and Craig Foddrill.
The Oilers answered at 8:24 of the second during a power play as Justin Ossachuk knocked in a rebound from the left crease area,
beating Brahma netminder Matt Mullin. Assists were awarded to forward Dallas Anderson and veteran defenseman Jorin Welsh.
Tulsa took a 2-1 lead at 9:49 of the second when Pat Hallett notched his 12th
goal of the season, deflecting home a wrister from the left point by defenseman Mike Johnson.
The Brahmas tied it at 2 when forward Sean Hughes fought through a check deep in the Oiler zone and beat
Branch fivehole at 11:31 of the second period.
With Oiler defenseman Jared Reigstad in the penalty box for elbowing, Ft. Worth grabbed a 3-2 lead at 13:51 of the second when newcomer Jeff Cameron
fired a slap shot from the left point, beating Branch gloveside. Helpers were awarded to Mike Tilson and Joe Van Volsen.
Oiler Forward Todd Marcellus knotted the score at 3 at 15:12 of the second,
breaking in on Mullin and sliding the puck into the net for his 15th goal of the season. Assists went to rookies Lyle Steenbergen and Kevin Livingston.
The Brahmas re-took the lead during a power play
at 19:53 of the second on a low shot from the left circle by Tilson, assisted by Midgley and Van Volsen.
Tulsa tied the game at 4 when forward Aaron Millar fed Hallett a pass from behind the net, with
Hallett quickly stuffing the puck between Mullin and the right post at 3:40 of the third period.
The Oilers took a 5-4 lead at 10:04 of the third when Reigstad made a tremendous forecheck on a Brahma
player, skated the puck in from the right side of the goal and fed a pass back to Marcellus deep on the right wing, who in turn beat Mullin gloveside for his second goal of the evening.
Oiler rookie
defenseman Jordon Flodell capped the scoring at 19:21 of the third on a low hard shot from the top of the point, scoring his third goal of the season. Hallett picked up an assist on the goal.
The
Oilers return to action tomorrow night against the Wichita Thunder. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center. |
